✂️ My First Time Hemming Jeans (and Keeping the Original Hem)

✂️ My First Time Hemming Jeans (and Keeping the Original Hem)

I’ll be honest — I’ve always been a little intimidated by the idea of hemming jeans. Denim just feels… different. It’s thick, it’s structured, and that original hem always seemed like something only a professional tailor could pull off.

But this week, I finally gave it a try — and I’m so glad I did! 🙌🏽

My daughter asked me to shorten a pair of her jeans that were way too long, so I decided to challenge myself and figure out how to keep that original hem intact. I took my time, measured carefully, pressed, pinned, and stitched — and when I flipped those jeans right side out, I was shocked at how good they looked. Like, real tailor shop results good!

The best part? It wasn’t nearly as complicated as I thought it would be. Once you understand how to fold the cuff and line the original hem up with your new length, the rest is just patience and pressing. Lots of pressing. (laughs)

If you’d like to see exactly how I did it, I filmed the whole process on my YouTube channel so you can sew along with me step-by-step. 🎥✨

Now I’m officially hooked — and confident enough to hem my own jeans going forward. No more paying someone else to do what I can do right at home. There’s such a great feeling that comes with learning something new and realizing, “Oh wait, I can do this!”

These were for my daughter, but next up… my own denim pile.
